Core practice
Coherent Breathing
At the core of BBM is slow, gentle breathing at a comfortable, regular rhythm. Coherent Breathing helps balance the stress response and develop a state of calm alertness.
Breath-Body-Mind Foundation
Breath-Body-Mind™ teaches evidence-based breathing and movement practices to help people manage stress, recover from trauma, and build resilience.
The method
Breath-Body-Mind™ combines breathing, gentle movement, and focused attention to help balance the stress response. Developed by psychiatrists Richard P. Brown, MD, and Patricia L. Gerbarg, MD, the practices are simple to learn, require no equipment, and can be adapted for many different people and settings.

Our impact
BBMF works with healthcare professionals, educators, community leaders, NGOs, and local organizations to bring breath-centered practices to people facing stress, trauma, and crisis. Our train-the-trainer approach helps communities develop the skills to continue the work themselves.
BBM programs support communities facing war, disaster, displacement, epidemics, and other periods of severe stress.
We train healthcare providers, educators, community leaders, and other professionals to use BBM practices within the communities they serve.
Train-the-trainer programs help local teachers and organizations continue offering BBM practices after an initial program ends.

Our community
Breath-Body-Mind is taught by trained instructors and teachers working across healthcare, education, community programs, and other settings around the world.
